We want to encourage communities to challenge unacceptable behaviours and support and listen to the vulnerable women in their midst.

Changing Relations C.I.C. is an arts education company that uses the arts & creative methods as the basis of our training & educational resources – aiming to support local communities to achieve social transformation by developing and delivering a range of projects that stem from values in promoting gender equality and healthy relationships.

We work with a range organisations  in empowering and thought-provoking ways to deliver impactful products and services. We are a core member of the Sex Education Forum.

As part of our tour and re shaping of our play Make Do and Mend in 2016, we worked alongside Gentoo housing in Sunderland to create an accompanying training session and drama based workshop with support from Northumbria University’s Mental Health Nurses Association and Ben Hoare Bell Solicitors. We have already successfully trialled the performance  – together with a drama-based workshop – as a training tool for health professionals and housing officers  – and we have just received additional funding from Big lottery Awards for All to create a film version of Make Do and Mend and develop printed resource packs to support the different groups and organisations receiving the session.

Our film and 2 hour practical workshop has great potential to offer an insight into Domestic Abuse, including:

  • The breadth and reality of what it is, in line with the newly introduced law on Coercive Control;
  • The damaging way in which it (DA) impacts victims;
  • The kind of responses to victims that are more/less helpful;
  • And the way in which art and craft-based therapy groups can support victims’ recovery processes.

If you are a Health ProfessionalHousing Provider or Family law expert and would like to express your interest in booking our new Domestic Abuse Sign and Support workshop based on the play Make do and Mend, we would love to hear from you contact Director of Operations polly@changingrelations.co.uk or visit our main website for more information: http://www.changingrelations.co.uk/products-and-services/

We are also keen to bring our performance to more Schools. The legal age to recognise victims of Domestic Violence was reduced to 16 in 2012, we believe it’s incredibly important to give young people the opportunity to reflect on what healthy and unhealthy relationships look like helping them to make safer healthier choices for themselves in the future. Students who have watched our play and received our 2 hour drama-based workshop said we’d given them a clearer picture of the signs and manifestations of DA (including Sexual – some were not aware of rape within marriage), with one telling us it was “life-changing” and 76% rating it 4 or 5 out of 5.

If you are in a School, Academy or College and would be interested in receiving our performance and workshop, or would like to know more about our education products and services including a film and teacher resource examining sexting risks and RSE -please get in touch with polly@changingrelations.co.uk or visit our main website :  http://www.changingrelations.co.uk/products-and-services/
